Who owns The Daily Search?

The Daily Search is an independently owned and operated multi powered search engine mashup.

How did The Daily Search come about?

The Daily Search is our response to the question "What if Google put a video player and chat box on their main page?" The answer is, owing to all the activity the Google home page gets in a typical day, it would come alive. It would be a hub of visibility and exchange, a living, breathing internet city abuzz with activity and teeming with motion. From that "What if..." TheDailySearch.com was born.

Why do you have a chat box on your main page?

TDS was designed to bring an active, real-time, community atmosphere to the search experience. Every day millions of browsers are set to and open up to the Google home page while the people on the other side of those computers have no way to interact, assist or exchange information. We believe connecting people at the search box is an untapped resource and powerful tool that has yet to be explored. A search page where users can share information and assist others in an immediate, real-time exchange is a powerful tool. Since there have been no signs as of yet that Google has any plans to experiment in this direction, we have created TDS to explore and experiment ourselves. We hope you join us and make The Daily Search your home page and a realm of interactivity.

Can any other visitors know or see my searches?

Not if you don't tell them. The chat box works completely independent from the search box and no other visitors or chatters can know what you've searched for unless you share it with them in the chat.

Doesn't a chat box encourage spam and unsafe linking?

There are risks in employing a chat box but we believe the benefits outweigh the risks. We do caution our users not to click on any links for which they are unsure of the landing page or the intentions of the poster. The chat box is designed to automatically consolidate links and so we advise leaving the "www" or "http://" out when posting a link in the chat box so users can see where the link directs to. They can then copy & paste the link if they feel it is recognizable and safe. Keep in mind however, that the chat box is only sporadically supervised and TheDailySearch.com is not responsible and cannot control the content of any posts made through the chat. We encourage our visitors to utilize chat in a responsible manner and report any questionable activity via our contact page.

Okay, but what about spam?

One of the secondary reasons TDS has decided to employ a chat box on the main page is to give small webmasters the chance to be seen. All to often submitting a website to a search engine is a competitive process with little chance of getting your site on the first result page for a good key word or phrase without shelling out a ton of cash. TheDailySearch.com eliminates that competitive process by incorporating the chat box on the main page. In this way, money doesn't have to limit your site's visibility. The chat box levels the playing field between all web masters, rich and not so rich. If you are a small webmaster who is considering the possibilities of advertising in this way, we encourage you to please spread the word about TheDailySearch.com. The more people use TDS, the more who will have a chance to see the link to your site in the chat box. Sometimes logging on and not knowing where you're going is an exciting part of the internet experience. By suggesting new and interesting sites to our users, small advertisers, some with unique ideas for sites, are helping to promote an exciting community experience. We are obviously in the testing phase of this policy. As more users of TDS come online, we may revisit and revise this approach.

In addition to never having seen a chat box on the main page of a search engine, I've never seen a video player employed in this capacity either. Why do you have a video player on your main page?

We believe embedding the video player on the main page with a daily clip of the latest and most popular news story facilitates discussion between users and helps establish a lively and interactive community. The video player has its own search box and all videos are playable inline (you don't have to leave the main page to view them but stay in chat).

Do the Home Page & Main Feature Page videos changed every day?

They may or may not. It depends on the video and how viral and popular it is. If it's something that happened to really grab the headlines that week and is still being talked about, we would want to give everybody who missed it when it happened a chance to view it. But no video would ever be featured for more than a week and some may only last a day. Plus, if there is breaking news, our featured video's may change even faster.

How do I search for videos in the video player?

In the lower right corner of the video player there is an arrow pointing upward. Hover your mouse cursor over that arrow and a tiny pop up box will appear just above the arrow. Click on that box and the search box will be revealed at the top of the video player.

What other features are in the planning stages for the main page?

The link wall at the top of our pages will be made customizable and we are looking for a suitable media player for the main page that plays both mp3's and videos inline with email capability. There are some out there now but they didn't quite fit esthetically with our site and we are keeping our eyes peeled for further developments in this area. We may decide to have our own media widget made. Stay tuned!

Can I play music through the video player now?

Yes. Just do a search for the song and / or artist you're looking for and perhaps someone uploaded it to YouTube.
